Richard “Dick” H. Michael, 88, of Mifflinville passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12th, 2026, at his home.
He was born on September 15th, 1937, in Berwick, Luzerne County. He was the son of late Harriet and Walter Michael. Richard graduated from Nescopeck High School in 1957. He played football at Nescopeck and was voted the best dancer. After graduating high school, he attended East Stroudsburg State College where he received a BS in Health Education and a master’s in science.
On December 16, 1961, he married his loving wife Karin, and they celebrated 62 years of marriage prior to Karin’s passing. Surviving are his three children: Christian Michael and wife, Crystal, Wendy Hoyt and partner, Mark Knecht, all of Nescopeck, and Todd Michael of Cornelius, North Carolina; two grandchildren: Christian R.J. Michael and Bailey Hoyt. A surviving sister, Ruth Bath, resides in Berwick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Karin.
Dick retired from teaching at Central Columbia High School with 34 years in education. He was a gym teacher and coached numerous sports within his teaching career. He always made sure all the young men could climb the rope. Dick and Karin traveled the world together after retirement going on eight cruises and visiting Charleston Lake in Ontario Canada every year.
Dick could tell hundreds of fishing stories and was called the “Lake Trout Master” by his family. He also spent time with family and friends at his river lot in Williamsport where he was always in charge of the campfire. He was a member of Faith United Evangelical Church in Nescopeck.
Following Dick’s wishes, private services will be held by the family. He will be laid to rest in the Mifflinville Cemetery next to his loving wife. Please feel free to send condolences to the family at PO. Box 13, Mifflinville, PA 18631.
