Richard A. McMurtrie, age 82, of Berwick passed away suddenly on Friday, January 23, 2026, at his home.
Born in Nescopeck on July 1, 1943, he was one of three sons born to the late Thomas D. and Geraldine A (Slusser) McMurtrie. He was a graduate of Nescopeck High School, class of 1963. He joined the Navy after graduation and served honorably until 1967. In his younger years he worked at Nesco Industries in Mifflinville. He retired from Magee Carpet in 2009, where he was employed for 25 years.
Rich was a member of Hetlerville United Methodist Church for many years. He was a life member of the Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Department and the NRA. For many years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother-in-law Jim. When he retired Rich enjoyed antique car shows with his Grumpy Old Men Car Club and having breakfast at The White Horse with his friends. He was very proud that his grandson Keith became a police officer.
In 1966, he married his beloved wife, Linda L. (Schultz) McMurtrie. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this April.
In addition to his wife, he will be greatly missed by his daughter, Melinda Whitenight and husband David, Nescopeck; son, Thomas Sterling McMurtrie, Berwick; and grandson, Keith Whitenight. He also leaves behind a brother, Thomas McMurtrie and wife Charlene, Bloomsburg; sister-in-law, Grace McMurtrie, Hunlock Creek; brother-in-law James Schultz and wife Debra, Berwick, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Joselle McMurtrie; and brother, Lee McMurtrie.
Rich wanted his family to know “Love U All, Dad.”
At Richard’s request there will be no public services.
