Mary Ellen Francis Moorhead

Mary Ellen Francis Moorhead, age 84 of Mifflinville passed away on Monday January 19, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Berwick on March 10, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Peg (Kester) Kishbaugh. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Berwick High School, class of 1959. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Curtis Moorhead. Together they raised their two sons and began a legacy for generations to follow. They would have celebrated 64 years of marriage this year.

Throughout her career, she served as a waitress at Tuggy’s and the Light Street Hotel, was a special needs teacher’s aide at Central Columbia and Bloomsburg School Districts. Later, she was the owner of Mary Ellen’s Sweet Shop, Mifflinville and was a regional sales representative for Liz Claiborne. For the past 46 years she was a co-owner with her husband Curt at Curt’s Gun Shop in Mifflinville.

She was a member of NC Church of Berwick, and a former member of Stillwater Christian and Mifflinville United Methodist Church. She was active in her faith and for many years served as a Lay Speaker, Sunday school teacher, and made several missionary visits to Honduras and Russia.

Mary Ellen had a great interest in preserving historic landmarks, decorating and filling them with antiques, painting, writing poetry and tending to her flowers. Her greatest love was working with children, she was a Cub Scout den mother, taught Sunday school and children’s art classes and was a neighborhood mom to many. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she will be greatly missed by her beloved sons, Steven Moorhead and his wife Christine of Phoenixville, Jeffery Moorhead and his wife Robin of Mocanaqua; cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Megan, Cameron, Colin, Logan; and adored great-grandchildren, Madison and Chloe. She also leaves behind a brother Roger Kishbaugh and his wife Kathy of Berwick; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday March 8th at NC Church, 20 Kachinka Hollow Rd, Berwick, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM.
