Willas “Will” W. Whitmire

Willas “Will” W. Whitmire, of Berwick (Briar Creek Township) passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with his family by his side. 

Will was born on July 30, 1943, in Briar Creek Township and graduated from Berwick Area Senior High School in 1962.  While in high school he worked part-time at Weis Markets in Berwick.

On August 25, 1962, he married Sandra “Sandy” Keller. Soon after, Will was transferred to a newly opened Weis Markets store as the produce manager, so they relocated to Reading, PA.  He later took a job at Georgia-Pacific Paper Company where he ran the paper press and began learning the skills as a maintenance mechanic.  In 1971, Will and Sandy moved their family back to Berwick where Will drove a bread delivery truck for Vaughn’s Bakery.  In 1974, Will began his career as a maintenance mechanic at Champion Valley Farms (later known as Del-Monte).  He worked many years in the can plant before becoming the rebuild mechanic and retired from Del-Monte in early 2012 after 38 years working in the pet food industry. 

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, the former Sandra Keller; his daughters, Brenda Lupini of Bloomsburg, Lorett Reilly and husband Anthony of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Derek Lupini of Kingston, Natalie Lupini of Bloomsburg, Fox Reilly and Hayden Reilly of Fayetteville, NC; great grandchildren, Charlotte Lupini and Forest Wyatt. He also leaves behind brothers, Nelson Whitmire and Dennis Whitmire; sisters-in-law, Carol Whitmire and Wendy Jones; brother-in-law Thomas Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Will was preceded in death by his parents, Warren W. and Zella I. (Shultz) Whitmire; brothers, Vernon and Kenneth; father-in-law, Jay Keller and mother-in-law Helen Keller.

Will had a great love for fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.  Will and Sandy took many fishing trips to Lake Anna, Virginia and he also took several fishing trips with his work friends, flying and driving deep in to Canada.  He enjoyed hunting with his father, brothers, nephews, nieces and his grandson.  He loved taking his family on summer vacations, especially to North Wildwood, NJ and Myrtle Beach SC.  Will also enjoyed attending car shows with his wife and friends.

At Will’s request there will be no service.
