Joan L. (Remick) Pursel

Joan L. Pursel, age 89, of Berwick passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, where she resided at Celebration Villa, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Danville on March 6, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Harry G. and Mabel L. (Swank) Remick. She was a graduate of Danville High School class of 1955 and continued her education at Smith School of Practical Nursing. Joan was employed as an LPN for over 30 years at Bloomsburg Hospital working in the Cardiac Unit.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Berwick and enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Berwick and sitting down with a good book. She liked playing card games such as pinochle, poker, and other card games, she also played in canasta tournaments with her friends. She loved the train ride in Wellsboro. She enjoyed family campouts at World Ends and cherished every Sunday she got to spend with her family and friends. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Pursel, Sr; sister, Donna Boyer; brothers, George Remick and Harry Remick; 3 nephews and her dogs, Bobe, Rosie and Sadie which were her life.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Joni Henderson and husband Thomas, Elizabethtown; Gloria K. Burris and husband Bob, Bloomsburg; Melody Shields and husband Greg, Berwick; Julie Ney and husband Lou, Berwick; son Donald “Bo” F Pursel, Jr and wife Terri, Danville; 15 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson and was looking forward to the birth of great great grandaughter this year. She also leaves behind sisters, Doris Young, Bloomsburg; Mildred Thomas, Bloomsburg; brother, Jerry Remick and wife Mary Ann, Poconos; sister-in-law, Ellen Remick, numerous nieces and nephews; and best friends, Shirley Showers and Linda Nagle.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday April 7, 2026 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1315 Fairview Ave, Berwick with Pastor Chad Hebrink officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until the time of service.
