Gerald “Jerry” F. Hummel, age 77, of Berwick went home to be with his lord and savior on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Berwick.
Born in Berwick on September 12, 1948, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Gertrude M. (Fink) Hummel. He was a graduate of Berwick High School, class of 1967, and earned a business degree from Wilkes-Barre Business College. He worked for Wise Snacks for many years. Prior to that he worked at the family business, Hummels Cut Rate convenience store, Berwick.
Gerald was an active member at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Berwick where he sang in the choir and helped with many functions. He also sang for weddings and funerals; his most requested song to sing was the Lords Prayer. He liked playing cards especially canasta. He enjoyed flower gardening. Gerald loved travelling to many different countries with his husband going on cruises, attending plays in local theaters and Broadway theaters.
In the 1970’s, he was well known for his baking and was hired to make wedding and specialty cakes for many people. He also was known for the candy he made during Christmas and other holidays, especially his Easter eggs. He also enjoyed planning themed parties for family and friends.
In 1979, he met his soulmate, Robert “Bob” Harding, and they celebrated their union with a ceremony in 2003 and their legal marriage on November 22, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his husband with whom he spent the past 23 years. He also leaves behind sisters, Shirley Hornberger, Berwick; Debora Hummel, Coal Township; nieces and nephews.
Most importantly he loved God, Jesus, his husband and family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dale E. Hummel
(1961), and Gary L. Hummel (2025), and his 3 cats, “Peeka”, “Boo” and “Lucky”.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am up until the Celebration of life Service at 11:00 am, all on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Berwick United Methodist Church, 1000 Orange Street, Berwick. There will be no burial.
