James R. Smith, Jr., age 62, of Berwick passed away on June 7, 2026, at his home.
Born in Berwick on July 4, 1963, he was the son of James R. Smith, Texas, and Kay L. (Nagle) Ward, Nanticoke. He was a graduate of Berwick Area High School, class of 1982. He worked for Barletta Materials and Construction Inc for over 30 years until his illness would no longer allow.
James loved tinkering in his garage and working on chainsaws, lawnmowers or helping with electrical projects. He was always lending a hand to anyone in need and never expected anything in return.
In addition to his parents, he will be greatly missed by his wife Julie (Futoma) Smith; daughter, Abby Henrickson and husband Ryan, Berwick; grandchildren, Willow and Rowan Henrickson; mother-in-law, Anna Futoma, Nescopeck; and aunt, Carla Lewis and husband Greg, Berwick.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Ward.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Mike and Melanie and staff of Compassus Hospice for their extraordinary care. A special thank you to Amie DeWald for her time, care and compassion.
