Shirley M. Balazs, age 89, of Shickshinny passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born in Berwick on April 9, 1937, she was a daughter of the late George and Freida Sorber. She was raised and educated in Shickshinny. She worked at Consolidated Cigar in Berwick for over 35 years until the factory shut down.
Shirley was a routine person; she would work, come home, make dinner, and spend as much time as possible with her family before going to bed and doing it all again the next day.
She will be greatly missed by her son, George Brown, Jr. and wife Janet, Wapwallopen; granddaughter, Amy Rednard and husband Gary; 4 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter; 3 great-great grandsons and 2 great- great granddaughters; and sisters, Margo Boston and Loretta Hortop.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Louis J. Balazs; daughter, Robin Stout; sister, Dolores Boston, and a grandson George Brown.
A private graveside service was held at Marvin Cemetery, Shickshinney, at the convenience of the family.
