Edwina C. Luthi, age 90, of Berwick, went to be with her lord and savior on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at her home after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Berwick on March 20, 1936, she was a daughter of the late, Edwin O. and Roberta (Heckard) Jacobs. She was a graduate of Berwick Area High School, class of 1954. She was a member of the French Club and could speak French fluently.
In 1955, she married her beloved husband, Samuel T. Luthi, and became a devoted Navy wife. After the birth of her children, she dedicated her time to raising her children and providing a loving home for her family. They celebrated 45 years of marriage before Samuel passed away in 2000.
She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Nescopeck, where she was involved with Ladies Aid, and she sang in the choir until last year. She was a member of the Berwick Woman’s Civic Club and a Judge of Elections in Salem Township/ Luzerne County. Over the years, she donated over 25 gallons of blood. She volunteered with Red Cross Blood Drives in Berwick and was a Gray Lady at the VA Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. She also volunteered at the Berwick Public Library helping with the literacy and English as a second language programs. She was a member of TOPS Chapter 784, Berwick, where she made several long-time friends. She enjoyed going to monthly breakfasts with members of her graduating class.
Edwina was an amazing pianist and sang with the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed crosswords, word searches and jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid reader and was a wealth of knowledge. She loved gameshows and had a self-imposed curfew to be home in time for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She was an avid Eagles, Phillies and Penn State fan.
She will be greatly missed by her children: Deborah L. Kupferschmid and husband Karl, Benton; Melissa J. Luthi, Berwick; David E. Luthi, Sr. and wife Pammy Luthi, Nescopeck; Samuel T. Luthi, Jr. and wife Sallie Luthi, Nescopeck; grandchildren, Karl K. Kupferschmid; David E. Luthi, Jr. and wife Charlene; Rebecca “Becky” Luthi; Laura Luthi and wife Kayla; and Samuel “Trey” Luthi III; and great grandchildren, Gavin Luthi, and Emma Weaver.
All are welcome to join the family at Folk’s Butterfly Farm, 9 Butterfly Lane, Nescopeck, on October 17, 2026. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a celebration of life ending at 2:00PM. Burial next to her husband in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick, will be held privately at the convenience of her family.
