Eugene R. Brown, 91, of Berwick, formerly of Nescopeck, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Berwick Retirement Village I.
He was born August 16, 1924 on the family homestead in Briggsville, PA, son of the late George and Martha (Seely) Brown. He attended the One-Room Turnpike School in Briggsville, formerly Sloyersville, and then went on to graduate from the former Nescopeck High School, Class of 1942. He also attended seminars at Bloomsburg College for State Police and FBI.
As a young man he worked on the family farm, was former police chief in Nescopeck from 1958 to 1970, and worked for the Press Enterprise as a bundle carrier, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed deer hunting, collecting antiques, caning chairs, restoring furniture, gardening, and reading.
He was a life member of the Nescopeck Borough Fire Company, a former member of Knapp Lodge No. 462 F & AM for 45 years, and the Irem Temple.
Eugene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arline Brown; sister, Leah Shaffer; and brother, Fred Brown.
Surviving are his daughters, Ellen L. Brown, Florida; and Mrs. Susan Kramer and husband Robert, Berwick.
At Eugene’s request, all services will be private.
