Katherine “Kate” Donnelly

Katherine “Kate” Donnelly, 68, of Berwick passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville following sudden health crisis.

Born in Wind Gap, PA on January 5, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Jean A (Nicholason) Bartholomew. She graduated from Nazareth Area High School and attended Luzerne County Community College. Kate was a teacher at Lydia Long Group Home Daycare, Berwick for over 10 years.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Berwick Ward, where she was known to many as Grandma Kate. She was a former member of the Welcome Wagon and Senior Circle. She was also a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts. She loved traveling, having visited every state except Alaska, as well as other countries, only slowing over the last 2 years due to health issues.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Michael F. Donnelly, Sr. with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage on May 6th; son, Matthew Donnelly and wife Sara, Fair Oaks, CA; daughter, Melody A. Donnelly, Berwick; 2 grandchildren, Nicole Cammaratta and Amber Donnelly. She is also survived by her sisters, Sara Hale and husband Gene, Yeadon, PA; Helen Elliot, Murraysville, PA; Peggy Catino and husband Joseph, Nazareth, PA; brother, Charles Bartholomew and wife Kathy, Tatamy, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael F. Donnelly, Jr in 2013; and brother, Willard Bartholomew.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7368 School House Road, Berwick. Interment will be held at approximately 2:00 PM in Forks Cemetery, Stockertown. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck and at the Church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
