Paul Otis Young Sr. went to be with his Lord early in the morning on Thursday, May 19.
Paul was born on March 1, 1933 to Harvey Otis and Mary Leatha (Halsey) Young, in Madison, Nebraska. When he was a young child his family moved to Chester County, PA. He enjoyed all things agriculture, including hunting and farming.
Paul graduated in 1952 from Unionville High School as the Senior Class President. He was an award winning FFA member and involved in many other school activities.
On June 26, 1954 Paul married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Jean Griffith.
In 1961 Paul & Nancy bought their farm in Berwick, PA. Here, Paul continued his life-long passion of dairy farming. In addition, he owned and operated Young’s Satellite Receivers.
He served for 30+ years as a Luzerne County Community and Committee Member of the United States Department of Agriculture.
Paul was a longtime active member of The Bloomsburg Church of the Nazarene. He served as both board member and Sunday school teacher.
He was a valuable member of the Salem Township Fire Dept. and volunteered many years helping with the benefit carnival.
Paul’s fun loving spirit will be missed greatly by his wife of nearly 62 years, Nancy Young, and his children: Donna (Rick) Weaver of Ashland, OH, Sharon (Kennis) Wilson of Mt. Vernon, OH, Cindy Young of Nashville, TN, Paul (Susan) Young Jr. of Berwick, PA, Lori (Timothy) Traugh of Berwick, PA.
He was known as Pap-Pap to his 9 beloved grandchildren: Melissa (Greg) Drew, Bethany (Vann) Burden, Casey Young, Jessica Weaver, Leah Law, Austin Traugh, Ivan Wilson, Jason Young, and Lydia Traugh.
He will be greatly missed by numerous relatives and friends.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Mary Young and his siblings: Elmer (Mary) Young, Mildred Speilman, Buryl Young, and Gerald (Verna) Young, and brothers-in-law; Norval Griffith and Charles Ahn Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC., 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with Reverend Marjorie B. Fisk officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service
