Dorothy J. (Fairchild) Mowery, 87, of Berwick passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care, where she had been a guest for the past year. Her daughter was by her side.
Born in Berwick on October 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Cryus R. Fairchild and Mabel A. (Thornton) Fairchild. She was a graduate of Berwick High School. Most recently, Dorothy worked at the Berwick Hospital for 17 years. After retirement, she worked at Beyond Violence for 7 years.
Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church, Berwick. She enjoyed puzzles and reading, as well as playing BINGO and card games.
Dorothy was the matriarch of 5 generations. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Sharon L. Thomas; sons, Elwood L. Mowery, James A. Mowery and wife Linda, Robert K. Mowery and wife Carol, all of Berwick; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to the birth of another great grandchild next month.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Elwood R. Mowery in 2008; and a sister, Ann L. Smith.A private memorial service will be held at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, Nescopeck.
