Robert A. Erdman

Robert A. Erdman, 81, of Mifflin Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family, under the compassionate care of Columbia Montour Hospice.

Born June 3, 1935, in Herndon, he was a son of the late Aurthur R. and Margaret E. (Klock) Erdman. Bob graduated from Mifflin Township High School in 1953. He and his wife, Sandra (Hippensteel) Erdman were married 61 years.

Bob was employed at Wise Potato Chip Company from 1953 to 1972, and Valley Seeding Company from 1972 until 2002, where he worked on many seeding and landscaping projects throughout the state including, Raystown Lake, Fort Indiantown Gap and the PA Turnpike. He also owned and operated Erdman Nursery and Landscaping from 1960 to 2015. Bob had his own nursery, where he grew many of his favorite trees. He was extremely knowledgeable in his field and assisted many in beautifying their homes and businesses.

After his retirement, Bob enjoyed planting vegetable gardens around his property. He was so proud of his produce, always sending along some of the day’s harvest with anyone who stopped to visit. Bob was truly a man of the earth and will be greatly missed by all who enjoyed the fruits of his labor.

Bob was an avid hunter, but he enjoyed passing on the tradition to his granddaughter, Mariah, more than hunting itself. His ultimate pride and joy were his two granddaughters, Carly and Mariah, who will always treasure the wonderful memories of their “Pop”.

Bob was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the PA Farm Bureau, and Mifflin Township Forest Rangers and Fire Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Roberta Erdman and companion Donald Lamon, Jr; Brenda Casey and husband James; son, David Erdman and wife Deborah; granddaughters, Carolyn “Carly” Casey and Mariah Casey; sisters, Marie Ruhmel and Betty Hawthorne; brothers, Gene Erdman, and wife Nancy, Ronald Erdman and wife Lisa; and many loyal friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with his pastor, Reverend Chad Hebrink officiating. Interment will follow in Mifflinville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until the time of service.
