Clara A. (Kramer) Mattive

Clara A. “Sis” “Sandy” (Kramer) Mattive of Berwick, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at home.

 Born December 26, 1923 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late James W. and Martha Kramer. She was raised and educated in Berwick. Clara served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Camp Grant and Fort Sheridan, IL. She was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and Distinguished Unit Badge. She obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge on July 24, 1946.

Clara graduated from the Bradford Beauty School, after which she owned and operated a beauty shop in her home on Mulberry St. in Berwick. She also worked at Consolidated Cigar for over 30 years, prior to its closing.

She was a member of the VFW in Berwick, PA for over 60 years. Clara was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception BVM Church. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid BINGO player.

Clara was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Molowski, Mary Jane Swisher; brother Fred Kramer, Clayton Kramer; and a granddaughter, Hannah Mattive.

Clara will be greatly missed by her daughters, Linda Ann Mattive; Cecilia Fox; Bernadette Redline and husband Albert; all of Berwick; sons, James V. Mattive and wife Lisa; Gerard E. Mattive; all of Bloomsburg; grandchildren, Glen and Clayton Traugh; Linda Montes; Sean Redline; Brianne Brown; Erin Scoggins; Isaac, Jacob and Lydia Mattive; great grandchildren Hunter and Mason Traugh; Eric, Jordan and Brady Montes; CeJay and Shaylee Traugh; and Kyla Scoggins; sisters Roberta Blass and Judy Cerasoli; both of Berwick; and brother James Kramer of Nanticoke.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with her granddaughter’s husband, Reverend Kenneth Scoggins, and her pastor, Reverend Francis Tamburro, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Berwick. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
