William L. Hixson, Sr., 88, of Berwick passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home.
Born in Berwick on April 23, 1928, he was a son of the late Daniel I. and Leona E. (Hess) Hixson. He graduated from Berwick High School in 1946. Bill was an apprentice bricklayer before opening his own construction business, Hixson Construction, retiring in 1992.
Bill was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Berwick. He was a member of Defender Hose Company and Eagle Hose Company. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge #1138, Knapp Lodge 462, Berwick, and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He served on the Berwick Area School Board for 20 years where he was past president and Columbia Montour Vo-Tech School Board for 12 years. Bill enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing and playing cards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary L. Lawson, to whom he was married on October 7, 1950; a son William Hixson, Jr; a daughter in infancy; and a sister, Mrs. Lois Crispell.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Nancy Hixson of Berwick; 3 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at convenience of the family.
