Alvin R. “Pete” Vargo, 81, of Berwick passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Berwick on July 19, 1936, he was the son of the late Dorothy V. (McHenry) and George A. Vargo, Jr. He attended Berwick High School and worked for over 30 years at Ray Yorks Construction.
Pete was a life member of Eagle Hose Company, where he served as trustee for many years. He was also a social member of Berwick VFW Post 821. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Martha J. (Whitmire) Vargo; sons: Stephen Vargo and wife Cathy; Brian Vargo; David Vargo; daughter in law, Lori Vargo, all from Berwick; grandchildren: Erica Vargo; Justin Vargo and wife Chelsey; Robert Vargo and wife Jill; Kristy Sholly and husband George; Kim Wynings; Bradley Vargo; Kaitlyn Vargo; 14 great grandchildren; and aunt, Nancy DeMarco.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Vargo in 2015; and brother, Richard Vargo.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with Pastor Stephen Potutschnig officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
