Darrell John Jones, 69, of Berwick, Pennsylvania, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, December 10, 2017, after battling illness.
Born on November 11, 1948, Darrell was the eldest son of Harold and Dorothy Jones, of Berwick. He pursued higher education, earning an Accounting Degree from Wilkes University, and was employed for the past 30 years as an office manager/Controller at Fairway Motors in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He was a beloved member of the Fairway family and worked hard every day of his life, passing on his learned wisdom to those who knew him best.
He celebrated his 38th wedding anniversary with his wife Norma E. Jones, formerly Norma Davis, on July 21, 2017.
He was involved in the following organizations throughout his life: The Berwick Elks, The Rangers Fire Company of Berwick where he was a life-long member, the Jaycee’s of Berwick, the VFW posts in Benton, Berwick, Nescopeck, the American Legion posts in the surrounding area, and the Arthur Bardo American Legion in Millville. He was an integral contributor to the creation of the Berwick Ethnic Festival as well. His favorite hobbies included fly fishing for trout with his children, golfing, shooting pool, telling jokes, and spending time with friends and family at his favorite haunts.
Throughout his earthly life, he was most fondly known as a person who could walk into a room of strangers and friends alike, and leave with many new friends at the end of the night. He had an amiable personality that drew people to him, and his amazing storytelling abilities ensured that he would engage whatever audience he had in front of him. Many times, those who knew him were left laughing heartily after he finished one of his many life stories, told in such a way, that you felt you were a part of each of them. He will be remembered for his candid opinions, his infectious smile, and his contagious laugh.
Preceding Darrell in death were his parents, Harold and Dorothy Jones. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his five sons and one daughter: John Harding, Berwick; Lucas Jones and his wife, Lindsey, Endwell, NY; Adam Jones and his wife, Tiffany, Nescopeck; Benjamin Jones, Berwick; Sarah Eighmey and her husband, Bradley, Berwick; and Darrell Jones Jr., Berwick. Also surviving are Darrell’s brothers: Aaron Jones Sr. and his wife Christine, Berwick; and Robleigh Jones, Berwick. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hannah Eighmey; Molly Eighmey; Emma Jones; Aiden Jones; Keegan Jones; Isadora Jones; and Karissa Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
