James G. Hailstone, 97, of Berwick passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 25, 1920, he was a son of the late James G. and Catherine (Birkbeck) Hailstone. He attended Moosic High School. After graduating in 1938 he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served honorably until November 1945. Jim was self-employed as a plastering contractor for many years.
James was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Nescopeck. He belonged to the Oriental Star Lodge F. & A.M. Lodge 588 in Peckville where he was a past Master. He was also involved with the Keystone Consistory, Scranton & Irem Shrine Temple. James was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Berwick Area Red Cross. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and traveling. He loved to spend time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters: Claire Farnschlader, Lake Harmony; Janis Walsh and husband David, Berwick; grandchildren: April Bues and husband Dan, San Fransico; Jason Ruby and wife Donna, Lake Tahoe; Megan Marshman and husband Jeffery, Berwick; Sean Walsh and wife Leighton, Berwick; great-grandchildren: Lucy Bues; Calen and Maya Ruby; Ashlyn, J.D., and Ava Marshman; and Onolee Walsh. He also leaves behind a brother, Robert Hailstone and wife Jean, Landenberg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ruth (Broadhurst) Hailstone on September 1, 2017; son-in-law, Frank Farnschlader; and 6 siblings.
A memorial service will be held on December 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 Broad Street, Nescopeck, with his pastor, Reverend Susan Knorr officiating.
