Carl E. Varner, Jr, age 78, of Millville passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at The Gardens at Millville, following a battle with cancer.
Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Carl E. and Betty J. (Fedder) Varner, Sr. He was a member of Berwick High School, class of 1961. Carl served in the National Guard for 6 years. His first job was working at his father’s gas and service station and later he had his own gas and service station for 7 years. After its closing, he was employed at Laubach’s Auto Parts, Bloomsburg, and the golf Course. He retired from Magee Carpet.
In 1967, he married Joanne (Leiby) Varner. Together they raised a family and enjoyed travelling, especially to Colorado. They were snowbirds for 12 years.
He was a member of Light Street United Methodist Church and attended Millville United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge #0436, Bloomsburg; a life member of Mifflinville, West End Hose and Beaver Township Fire Companies. He was former Mason. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in bowling and dart leagues, and later became an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he will be greatly missed by his sons: Dale E. Varner and wife Diane, Elizabeth, CO; Randy L Varner and wife Joan, New Brockton, AL; James E Varner and companion Joan Hopkins, Larksville, PA; grandchildren: Benjamin C Varner and wife Katie; Richard J Varner and wife, Keri; Jessica Varner and wife Zoee Charles; Austin J Varner; great grandchildren, CiCi and Cheyanne.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Varner.
A Celebration of Life was held privately for his immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
His family would like to thank the loving and caring staff of The Gardens at Millville for all the care they provided for him over the past month.
