On November 18, 2021, Dean Allen Youlls, Sr, 83, was called home by his Lord and Savior at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Berwick on December 6, 1937, he was a son of the late Dorris (Snyder) Probst and Walter B. Youlls. He was raised and educated in Berwick, and he served honorably in US Navy from 1956 to 1959. In his younger years, Dean worked as a pin setter at Stenko’s Bowling Alley, then later, worked at Vaughns-Maiers Bakery, Berwick for 21 years. He retired from Greif Brothers, Hazleton.
On April 23, 1977, he married Christa A. (Phillips) Youlls, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. She will miss him dearly in the coming days.
Dean was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Berwick, and a life member of Ranger Hose Company, Berwick. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler, who bowled with leagues and won several trophies. He liked going on vacation, having cookouts and holiday gatherings with his family and friends. He was a loving man always helping anyone in need. Dean will be remembered by many as the man with the big blue eyes, contagious smile, and cigar. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was known for providing lawn care in his community for over 50 years. After retirement, he enjoyed working side by side with his son, Dean. He greatly enjoyed watching sports with his son David, his favorite teams were the Berwick Bulldogs, Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, and Bloomsburg University Basketball. He loved watching his son, Frank, participate in Berwick Football and wrestling, and then his grandson, Alex, in Berwick and Bloomsburg football.
In addition to his wife, Christa; he will be greatly missed by his sons, Frank Youlls and wife Marianne, NC; Dean Youlls Jr and wife Tara, Berwick; and David Youlls, Nescopeck; grandchildren, Alex and Liberty; Tia, Brett, Diego, Ashton and Bailey; and stepmother, Mary Lou Youlls. He is also survived by his brothers Miles Probst, Orangeville; Bobby youlls and wife Elsie, Pittson; sister, Debbie Gushock and husband James, Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne Probst; Dale Youlls; and James Slusser; sisters, Mae Balliet; Barbara Tabbit; and infant sister, Mary Jane Youlls.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Necsopeck, followed by interment in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends on Monday, November 22, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
