George Samuel McFeeley of Bloomsburg, PA heard the whispers of his ancestors and departed his Earthly cares on March 20, 2020.
He was born and raised in Essex County, New Jersey. He was one of 6 children born to the late Edward Francis, and Mary Agnes (Lowel) McFeeley. He is also preceded by his brothers, Edward, Thomas, and Charles McFeeley.
He is survived by his children, Daniel McFeeley, Kathleen McFeeley Durland, Laura McFeeley Parham, and Jennifer McFeeley; his grandchildren, Alexander Theodos, Amanda Theodos Hooda, Stephen Theodos, Jacqueline Durland Ruggiero, and Rachel McFeeley; his great-grandchildren, Saira, and Inaya Hooda, and Raylan Ruggiero; his sister, Mary McFeeley McCann; and a host of other family and friends (Notably, Howard “Pete” Comstock, whose kindness will always be remembered).
George was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 – 1954. His Navy career began at Age 17 when he joined the reserve. When he became of age, he served on his beloved ship, the USS Quincy CA-71. He was an active life member of the Berwick VFW, Post 821, where he held several offices, including Commander from 2009 – 2010, and felt it a privilege to serve on the Honor Guard. Additionally, he was a life member of the Berwick Elks Lodge #1138, and the Bloomsburg American Legion, Post 273. He was also a life member of the US Navy Cruiser Sailors Association, and a life member of the Kinnelon, NJ Fire Company. He was also a member of the West End Fire Company, Berwick and the Mifflinville Forest Rangers. In younger days, he earned his Eagle Scout on 5/23/1952.
George was known for his humor, his willingness to assist whenever needed, and for the hand he always extended in friendship to all he met. He will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23rd at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E 3rd St, Nescopeck. A memorial service at with military honors will follow at 6:00 PM.
