James J. “JJ” Elmes

James J. “JJ” Elmes, 45, of Nescopeck Township passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Born on April 17, 1977, in Berwick, he is the son of Linda L. (Eveland) of Nescopeck Township and the late James D. Elmes. He graduated from Columbia Mont Vo-Tech in 1995 and received a degree in construction. For most of his life, he worked for a company in the Poconos. James was a very talented wood worker who could make furniture from cut trees. He was an expert at canning and could raise and process meat. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, snow mobiling, and quading. He enjoyed being outside as much as possible. James was a kind person with many friends and could make an excellent lasagna. In addition to his mother, he will be greatly missed by his son Sage Elmes, Nescopeck Township; brothers: David Elmes and wife Patrice, Washington; Scott Elmes and wife Tammy, Zenith; Jason Elmes and wife Julie, Orangeville; sisters: Susan Smith and husband Jeff, Nescopeck Township; Diane Wyda and husband Mike, Dorrance Township; and Sarah Zehner and husband Steve, Nescopeck Township; nieces and nephews: Brittany, Jenna, and Kara; Olivia, Lillian, and Maria Lynn; Jessica, Dylan, and Matthew; Michael, Bryce, and Emily; Sadie and Hannah; great nieces and nephews: Jamie, Lucy, Maisy, Connor, and Kampbell; aunts and uncles: Bill Elmes and wife Elaine; Jane Crahall and husband Brinley; Jean Jarrard; Joyce Laubaugh and husband David; and many cousins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Warren and Helen (Litwhiler) Elmes and Jack and Florine (Kershner) Eveland. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Zenith. Family will receive friends Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Special Olympics or a charity of your choice.
