Irene M. Hoch

Irene M. Hoch, age 91, of Nescopeck, formerly of Hobbie, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Allied Meade Street Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Drums on July 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James and Edna (Walp) Hoch. She graduated from Hazleton High School in 1948 and went on to earn her degree from Dean School of Business, Wyoming Seminary in 1950. Irene assisted her father in the operation of Hoch’s Garage until he retired in 1967, then was employed at Eberhard Faber, and later Quebecor Printing, retiring in 1996. She also worked at Pecora’s Dairy for over 13 years. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Dorrance and previously a member of St John’s Lutheran Church, Drums. She was a 9-year volunteer for hospice in the Berwick Area. Irene was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy; and stepmother, Violet (Stackhouse) Hoch. She will be greatly missed by a host of cousins and many friends. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in St John’s Cemetery, 770 St John’s Road, Drums. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. A special thanks is extended to the staff at Smith Health Care, Mountaintop and Allied Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre for the wonderful care they provided for her during the past year.
