Drue N. Chapin

Drue N. Chapin, 92, of Nescopeck, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Pond Hill on May 8, 1930, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Hazel M. (Hess) Chapin. He went to Nescopeck High School. Drue was raised farming and continued for his entire career, owning and operating his own produce farm. Eventually, the farm became a partnership with Drue and his sons.

He married his loving wife Kathleen in March of 1951. They worked on the farm together in Mifflin Township and raised 4 children. She will miss him greatly in the coming days.

He was a member of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nescopeck. Drue raised potatoes for Wise Potato Chips and tomatoes for Chef Boyardee and received Outstanding Master Tomato Grower award in 1961. In his quiet time, he enjoyed mowing grass and working around the farm.

In addition to his wife, “Kay” he will be greatly missed by his sons, Ward Chapin and wife Glenda, Nescopeck; James Chapin and wife Karen, Nescopeck; daughters, Mary Skwierz and husband John, Conyngham; Jean Danner and husband John, Duluth, Georgia; grandchildren: Aaron, Mitchell, Nathan Brown, Michael and Steven Chapin, Kristen Keck, Sarah Shafer; and 10 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother Rudolph “Boots” Chapin, Hollenback Township; sisters, Freda Pague and husband Olin “Boone”, Nescopeck and Eva Potter, Bloomsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Frederick, and her husband William; brother Robert “Allen” Chapin; sister-in-law Dorothy Chapin; and brother-in-law Roy Potter.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 807 E. Third St, Nescopeck with Pastor Daniel Warntz officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Nescopeck. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday evening at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third St, Nescopeck.
