Emily L. Balonis, 71, of Berwick passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Her loving family was by her side.
Born in Nanticoke on February 24, 1952, she was a daughter of the late Melvin J and Gladys L (McAfee) Hughes. She worked at Hoch Chiropractic in Berwick as an office assistant for several years.
She was the wife of Frank P. Balonis. They shared 37 years together before his passing in 2006. Emily was a devoted wife and mother who worked hard to provide a loving home for her husband and their 3 children.
She formerly attended LCBC Church, Bloomsburg. Most of all, Emily loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Frank Balonis and wife Kerry, York, ME; James Balonis and wife Sandra, Minnesota City, MN; Lisa M. Snyder and husband Sam, Berwick; and 7 cherished grandchildren, James, Patrick, Nicholas, Abigail, Gwen, Anthony, and Jackson. She also leaves behind brothers, Harold Whitmire and wife Shirley, Berwick; Carl Whitmire and wife Rita, Muhlenberg; Matthew Barwick and wife LeAnn, Shickshinny; sister, Madelyn Whitenight, Nescopeck; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the food ministry, Not Bread Alone, 440 Shickshinny Valley Road, Shickshinny, PA.
