John T. Williams, Sr

John T. Williams, Sr, age 80 of Nuangola passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Nanticoke on January 4, 1943, he was a son of the late Mary J. (McNeill) and Joseph M. Williams, Sr. He was a member of the last graduating class of Fairview High School, Mountaintop in 1962, where he played basketball and the team qualified for PA State semi-finals. He served honorably in the US Navy, during the Vietnam War. He was employed at the Hazleton Post Office as a clerk for 33 years.

John was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Slocum, where he rang the bell every Sunday for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Mountaintop Post 781 for over 50 years. He loved sports, he coached little league for many years and played in many baseball leagues until he was 55. He also liked darts, horseshoes and bowling in more recent years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 56 years, Helen R. (Rinehimer) Williams; sons, John T. Williams, Jr, Mountaintop; Steven Williams, Slocum; Chad Williams, Jim Thorpe; cherished grandson, Benjamin Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Hines and Jane Hopersberger; brothers, Joseph Williams Jr; Russell Williams; and Donald Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Mt Zion UCC, 438 Lily Lake Road, Slocum Township. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
