Michael J Avilla, age 61, of White Haven passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 31, 1961, he was a son of the late Anthony and Barbara (Wheeler) Avilla. Mickey graduated from Hazleton High School and continued his education at Penn State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He graduated with honors despite being legally blind. He never let his disability hold him back, he accepted each challenge as it came. Most recently, he worked at White Water Challengers.
Mickey was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing year-round. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Lorraine with whom he would have celebrated 36 years of marriage this December; stepdaughter, Tracy Nesbitt; and stepson, Robert Nesbitt, both of White Haven; cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jordan, Alan, and Roger; and a brother, Bob Avilla of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Blaine Avilla.
A celebration of life is being planned for late October.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to your local SPCA.
