John E. Ogin, age 74, of Slocum Township passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Berwick.
Born in Nanticoke on April 28, 1949, he was a son of the late Marvin and Matilda (Lamoreaux) Ogin. He was a graduate of Crestwood High School and for 44 years, he worked at Wise Foods, Berwick.
John was an active member of Slocum United Methodist Church, New Hope Charge. He was on the board of the Slocum Cemetery. He enjoyed shopping, snowmobiling, and he was a model train enthusiast.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 48 years, Getha L (Miller) Ogin; daughters, Deidre Whitenight and husband Robert, Berwick; Diane Briggs and husband Tyler, Hobbie; sons, Eric Sponenberg and Michael Ogin, both of Slocum Twp; grandchildren, Ashley Hunter, Kayla Pawlowski, Ryan Pawlowski, and Benjamin Stortz; and great grandchildren, Sadie, Grayson, Peter and Erin. He also leaves behind a sister, Linda Herring and husband Charles, Slocum Twp; brother, Paul Ogin and wife Debbie, Slocum Twp; and many nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Ogin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Slocum United Methodist Church, Blue Ridge Trail, Slocum Twp. Interment will follow in Slocum Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck, on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Slocum United Methodist Church.
