Paul A. Nye

Paul A. Nye, age 81, of Nescopeck passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Berwick, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Pittsburgh on July 31, 1942, he was a son of the late James and Sarah L (Bandi) Nye. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School, Pittsburgh and continued his education at Allegheny Community College. In 1961 he entered the US Navy and served until 1967. The Bay of Pigs extended his service time, but he did not see combat. He was employed at Susquehanna Power Station from 1983 to 2007, retiring shortly after it became Talon Energy. After retirement, he continued to work through the outages.

Paul was a member of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nescopeck. He served on the Nescopeck Borough Council for over 20 years and was a social member of the Nescopeck Fire Company. He also served on the board of the Nescopeck Volunteer Ambulance for several years where he was previously a liaison to the council, led drills for Nescopeck’s Emergency Management Response Team, and served on church council. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and woodworking. He also liked tinkering on different projects around his house. In his younger years he played golf and was a little league coach.

He will greatly be missed by his wife of 28 years, Debra “Debby” L. (Turnack) Nye; son, Paul J. Nye and wife Kari, Allison Park; daughters, Vicky J. Cooney and husband Joe, Pittsburgh; Jody M. Dever and husband William, Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Richmond, Michele, Emily, Austin, Ronan, and Brielle. He also leaves behind a brother, Timothy A. Nye and wife Patricia, of Texas, many nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Basil “Willie” Turnack and several extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James R. Nye; sisters, Phyllis and Joyce; and mother-in-law, Beatrice A. Turnack.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at Faith United Evangelical Church, 801 E Third St, Nescopeck, with his pastor, Reverand Daniel Warntz officiating.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck, and on Saturday at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of service.
