Charles S. Embree

Charles S. Embree, age 88, of Berwick, passed away February 12, 2024, at his home.

Born in Charleston, SC on March 3, 1935, he was the son of the late George G. and Marie (Kelley) Embree. He graduated from Summerville High School, in Summerville SC class of 1953. He then went on to proudly serve his country, in the US Army for 20 years, within those years he was ranked a Major. He was a decorated solider, with two tours in Vietnam, where he earned two Silver Stars and a Legion of Merit. After receiving an honorable discharge, Charles became on Office Manager, at Research Cottrell for 25 years, he worked in Pennsylvania and later in Georgia. After retirement, he followed his love for horticulture by building a nursery where he grew azaleas and camelias.

In Charles’ free time, he loved to collect different things, such as pottery, baseball cards, and other items. When he wasn’t collecting, he enjoyed taking trips to the casino for some fun. He was also a very talented photographer, and loved to capture pictures all around the world.

He will be greatly missed by his sons, Kelley G. Embree and wife Barbara, Berwick; and Stephen C. Embree and wife Shelly, Oklahoma City; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nieces, Judy Shannon, and Kathleen Helton; many nephews; and his caregiver, Tammy Huray.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Jo (Toy) Embree; son, James Embree; sisters, Ethel Walters, and Betty; brother-in-law, Joe Walters.

Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday February 20, 2024 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. Military honors will be held at 5:30 PM, immediately followed by a funeral service with Reverend Barbee officiating.
