William J. Zidek

William “Bill” Zidek, age 83, of Bloomsburg passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pottsville surrounded by family.

Born in Nanticoke on August 27, 1941, he was the son of the late William M. and Mary (Slavick) Zidek. He was a graduate of Newport High School, class of 1959. Bill served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. Bill worked as mason and brick layer through Local union #5, Wilkes-Barre for over 40 years. During that time, he traveled all over Northeastern Pennsylvania for work and in the past, to New Jersey as well.

Bill attended St. John’s United Church of Christ, Wapwallopen. He was a volunteer at the Nescopeck Food Cupboard and the Salvation Army, Berwick. He was a member of the Polish Falcons, Mocanaqua. Bill enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, and dancing. Bill was a fun-loving family man who enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by those he loved the most. He was quick with a joke, an encouraging word, and a helping hand.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Bette Jane (Keiser) Zidek; daughters, Amy Bonebrake and husband Scott, Glen Mills, PA; Dawn Oldfather and husband Jim, Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Connor, Hannah, Brett and Cole Bonebrake; Brock and Lance Oldfather; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Leona Sherrick and his brother, John Zidek.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 am till Noon on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck, with a funeral service immediately following.
