Ray E. Dawson

Ray E. Dawson, 89, of Nescopeck, passed away on Thursday October 3, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by his loving family.

Born at home in Wapwallopen on March 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Ardina M. (Weiss) and Lawrence Dawson, Sr. He was a graduate of Nescopeck High School, class of 1954. Ray worked at Berwick Shirt Factory, and later, retired from APR, formerly GM Supply, Berwick. In his younger years, he worked on the family farm and worked at Hoch’s Meat Market, Hobbie.

He liked fishing, lawn mowing, and picking blueberries. His greatest enjoyment was spending time and playing with his grandchildren, especially going to Evansville to feed the ducks.

He will be greatly missed by his children: Keith Dawson, Nescopeck; Wanda Stradnick and husband Lance, Wapwallopen; Randy Dawson and wife Sandy, Wapwallopen; Tammy Dawson, Millville; Midge Shoemaker and husband Jeff, Wapwallopen; and Jeff Snyder and wife Allison, Catawissa; son-in-law, Jeff Pawlowski; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Stefanie, Matthew, Brandon, Bradley, Kendra, Gavin, Isabella, and Riley; great grandchildren, Avery, Coraline, Collin, Chester III, Reign, Lucille, and Lilyann. He also leaves behind brothers, Robert “Bob” Dawson and wife Diane; William “Bill” Dawson; sister, Carol “Sis” Dawson, all from Wapwallopen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn L. (Kishbaugh) Dawson on December 26, 1994; daughter, Sharon Dawson on January 8, 2022; brothers, Lawrence “Art” Jr., Tom, Doyle “Pee Wee”, Dave, Richard “Dick” and Glenwood Dawson; and sister, Ila Mae Dawson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on October 10, 2024, at Heller Funeral Home LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with Reverend Oliver Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Mt Zion Cemetery, Briggsville. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
