Gary Lee Hampton

Gary Lee Hampton, age 81, of Nescopeck, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024. Born on August 4, 1943, Gary was a devoted servant of the Lord and a cherished parishioner of Cross Point Bible Church in Berwick for 30 years.

Gary honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the USS Kittyhawk, contributing to missions across various locations worldwide during the height of the war.

After his military service, Gary began his civilian career at TRW, where he worked in his hometown,manufacturing aircraft parts. He later dedicated 32 years as a Pressman with R.R. Donnelley in Bloomsburg. Even after retirement, Gary’s commitment to his community was undiminished. He enjoyed part-time work at his church and served as a school van driver, always eager to lend a hand.

An active and dedicated member of Cross Point Bible Church, Gary served as a deacon and later as an elder, deeply involved in the spiritual leadership of the congregation. He participated in numerous church activities, including leading youth Bible studies, attending retreats, and weekly prayer breakfasts. His faith and dedication to the church community were evident in all he did. Gary’s life was a testament to service and compassion. He served his Lord and Savior, his country, and his community with honor and distinction. His generous and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Penny Hampton, his daughter, Elaine Reyes, and her husband Roman. He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Farver and Bonnie Wolford and her husband Lloyd; brothers-in-law Dennis Thomas and his wife Sandy and Wallace Hart; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ellen Hampton; his sisters, Dorothy Kishbaugh and her husband Jack, Elva Hart, Rose Romania and her husband Joe, Mildred Glodfelter and her husband Gene, and Gladys Bankes and her husband Cletus; and his brothers, Lloyd Hampton and his wife Bayne, Boyd Hampton and his wife Betty, and John Hampton and his wife Martha and brother-in-law James (Jim) Farver.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 19th, 2024, at Cross Point Bible Church 1426 Spring Garden Avenue, Berwick, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon in the Activity Center will immediately follow. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cross Point Bible Church, reflecting Gary’s lifelong commitment to his faith and community.

Gary’s legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
