Leon T. Moyer, age 92, passed away on December 3, 2024, at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Hollenback Township on February 19, 1932, he was the last living child of the late Parvin and Hazle (Garrison) Moyer. He was the last member of his graduating class at Nescopeck High School, class of 1950. In his younger years, he was a caretaker for Moyers Grove and Camp Joy-Lo. Leon worked for Wise Potato Chip Factory for over 32 years. After retirement, he was a bus driver for Ralph Wintersteen. He was an auditor for Hollenback Township. Throughout his life, he drove a truck for delivery of coal, bread and milk, as well as logging and lumber. He cut trees for neighbors and others in the area, and ran his own lumber mill until he was in his 80’s.
Leon attended St. Peter’s UCC, Hobbie, where he served several terms as president of the consistory. He liked hunting and enjoyed being outdoors caring for his property. He built the house where he lived and raised his family, and always kept busy tinkering or being outside building sheds or other things. He kept many parts for many things because “he might need it sometime”. He was a wonderful storyteller. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Janet R. (Bachman) Moyer, with whom celebrated 68 years of marriage; daughters, Sharon Moyer and husband John Ricci, Wapwallopen; Valerie Shultz, Honeybrook, PA; son, Wayne Moyer, New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Lindsey Gatto and husband Joseph; Shelby Rodriguez; Haley Shultz; and Nathan Shultz; and great grandchildren, Christopher, Bradley, Dylan, Devin, ZiLayna, and Miloh.
