Melvin D. Hess, age 72, of Berwick and formerly of Shickshinny, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Nanticoke on February 23, 1953, he was the son of the late Leon and Margaret (Cahill) Hess. He was a graduate of West Side Vocational Technical School. He retired from Wise Snack Foods, Berwick, where he was employed for 40 years.
Melvin was a volunteer fire fighter for Shickshinny Fire Company where he served as the assistant chief for several years. He was an avid Lionell model train enthusiast.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Lorraine A. (Stanley) Hess, with whom he would have celebrated a 45th anniversary this May. He also leaves behind a son, Scott Stanley and wife Melinda, Dallas; daughter, Nicole Leskosky and husband Robert, Schnecksville; grandchildren, Rowan, Parker and Dalton; a sister, Marlene Evans and husband Ron, Fishkill, NY; brother, Leon Hess Jr and wife Gladys, Tioga County; nieces, nephews and several extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Hess and sister, Charmaine Keefer.
A small private Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of his family. Heller Funeral Home, LLC, Nescopeck is entrusted with arrangements.
