Gene “Maddog” R. Dennis, age 71, of Conyngham Township passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Born in Nanticoke on January 12, 1955, he was the son of the late Donald G and Dorothy E (Brown) Dennis. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1972. For many years he worked at Wise Foods as a warehouse manager also in charge of shipping and receiving. He retired when his health began to fail.
Maddog loved animals and was an avid gardener. He liked football, he played on his high school team where he got his nickname “Maddog” and made life-long friendships with his teammates who call themselves, “The Nanticoke Brothers”. After graduation he continued to play for community football teams. He rooted for his high school team and followed college football as well. He also played racquetball and enjoyed golfing.
In October of 2001, he met his soulmate, Janet “Melissa” (Goff) Dennis. They knew the day they met that they would get married. They spent the past 25 years together and Melissa will miss him dearly in the days to come.
In addition to his wife, he also leaves behind a stepson, Gregory “Nick” Doskicz, Wapwallopen; sister, Laura Rinehimer and husband Carl, Salem Twp; sisters-in-law, Anne Dennis, Nescopeck and Lori Dennis, Luzerne; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Mary Lou Goff; godson, Ed Brown; cousins; and many friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy and Scott Dennis.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck. A time of sharing will begin at 6:00 pm.
