Carolyn Frances (Fox) Carter

Carolyn Frances (Fox) Carter, age 85, of Berwick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2026, at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Danville.

Born in Bronx, NY on January 6, 1941, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel M. (Terriault) Fox. She attended Sacred Heart School, Bronx, New York and graduated in 1958 from St Catherine’s Academy High School, Newport, RI. After graduating, she attended Corpus Christie Carmelite Convent, Newport, RI where she became a Carmelite nun, serving with the name of Sister Mary Ethel. While at the convent, she attended Salve Regina College where she started her education in nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, NY and began her career as a registered nurse.

After moving to the Berwick Area, she worked at the Berwick Hospital and Berwick Retirement Village. Prior to retiring, she worked at a nursing home in the Hometown area.

Carolyn was a member of Immaculate Conception, St Mary’s Church, Berwick. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was proud of being a breast cancer survivor since 1994.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Kelly Bompadre and husband Adam, Mountain Top; Kerry Canouse and husband David, Berwick;  Kevin Carter and companion Dovie, Georgia; cherished grandchildren, Felicia Canouse and husband Jacob Demler; Marisa Canouse; Harlee Stewart and husband Scott; Shelby Mitchell and husband William; Ashley, Shannon, Ryan and Brendan Peachey; and great grandchildren, Eileen Peachey and Amryn Mitchell. She also leaves behind sisters, Mary Jane Montiel, New York; Eleanor Palmisano and husband Peter, New Jersey; nieces, Erica Duome and husband Joseph; Danielle Reilly and husband Bill; and a nephew, Peter Palmisano Jr and wife Alexa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Immaculate Conception St Mary’s Church, 1730 Fowler Ave, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory are suggested to Immaculate Conception, St Mary’s Church.
