Harold L. Pennypacker, 93, of Berwick, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Sunbury.
Born in Shickshinny Valley on June 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Jacob R. and Anna L. (Miller) Pennypacker. He was educated in a one room schoolhouse in Savage Hill. He entered the United States Army in January of 1946 and served until 1949 during WWII. After an honorable discharge, Harold worked at Magee Carpet. He later was employed in East Rochester, building railroad cars, then at the AC&F, Berwick. After leaving the AC&F in 1968, he opened Thrifty Motors in Berwick until 1992 which he ran until retiring in 1992.
Harold was a devoted member of the Assembly of God, Bloomsburg since 1985. One of his favorite hobbies included golfing with his wife in Florida. He also enjoyed football and was a Pittsburg Steelers fan.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, William Pennypacker and wife Jasmin, Berwick; Charles Pennypacker, Berwick; Roy Pennypacker, Berwick; stepdaughters, Dixie Carl, Jerseytown; Joyce Walls and husband Jim, Danville; stepsons, Clifton Swartz and wife Suzanne, Jerseytown; Stephen Swartz, Jerseytown; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjory A. (Weaver) Pennypacker in 1985, second wife, June E. (Swartz) Pennypacker in 2013; daughter, Ruthann DeFrain; brother, William, Donald, and Alvin Pennypacker; and sister, Martha Berlin.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday evening.
