Max H. Bower, 88, formerly of Shickshinny and Huntington Mills passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Elmcroft of Berwick, where he was residing for the past 2 1/2 years.
Born in Berwick on July 10, 1928, he was a son of the late Howard L. Bower and Mary E. (Evans) Bower Grover. He was a 1947 graduate of Shickshinny High School, and attended Wyoming Seminary. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and after an honorable discharge, Max worked for the US Postal Service for 33 years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Martha’s, Holy Spirit Parish, Stillwater, and a member of the American Legion Post 495, Shickshinny for 60 years. He liked hunting and was a member of 5 Mountain Hunting Club. He also enjoyed painting pictures.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes L. (Woods) Bower in 1977; second wife, Irene Taylor Bower in 2007; a son, Gary Bower in 2001; stepdaughter, Dorothy Taylor; sister, Nancy Vargo; and brothers, Wayne and Ned Bower. He was the last of his immediate family.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, Richard Bower and wife Jennie, Almedia; Brian P. Bower and wife Ericka, Huntington Mills; stepsons, Duane Taylor, Nevada; John Taylor and wife Noreen, Laflin; grandchildren, Eric, Michael and Andrew Bower; step grandchildren, Kendra Saxton; James, Gina and Steven Taylor; great granddaughter, Emma Jo Bower; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Martha’s/Holy Spirit Parish, 260 Bonnieville Road, Stillwater with his pastor, Reverend Louis Kaminski officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
