James A. “Jimmy” Hyde, Sr. of Nescopeck passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Bloomsburg on April 1, 1934, he was a son of the late Jack F. and Elva (Shaffer) Hyde. He attended Mifflinville High School. Jim was self-employed most of his life, first at Hyde’s Grade A Meat Market, then at Hyde Homes, later he owned Briar Motors in Briar Creek, and most recently, the Second Hand Store in Berwick. After retiring, he worked part time in the meat department at the Giant Food Store in Berwick.
Jimmy attended Hetlerville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed visiting the casinos with his wife Nancy, locally, and in Atlantic City before becoming ill. He loved hunting. He was passionate about hunting at the 118 area with his family and friends. He owned his own hunting cabin, and on several occasions, was able to go on out of state hunting trips, as well as trips to Canada.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Nancy (McMurtrie) Hyde; daughter Jill Low, Hetlerville; son, James Hyde, Jr, Bloomsburg; grandchildren: Billy Low; Bradley Low, Jimmy Hyde and wife Jen; Joe Hyde; and great grandchildren: Chloe and Anthony Hyde. He is also survived by his sisters: Eleanor Capita and husband Mike, Berwick; Shirley Boychuck and husband Alex, NC; brother, Larry Hyde and wife Gretchen, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Hyde.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with Reverend John Bondhus officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
