Albert J. Gallagher, 91, of Berwick passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Berwick Hospital Center, where he was a patient for the past week.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Albert J and Kathleen (Gale) Gallagher. He was raised and educated in Boston. After graduation, he entered the US Army and served honorably from 1948 until 1970, during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and during his career, earned several medals including the Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star.
During his first deployment in Germany, he met the love of his life, Edeltruadt “Trudy” M. (Hackelberg) Gallagher. Four years later, in 1955, they were married. He was heartbroken when she passed away this past February.
After retiring from the Army, Albert settled in New Jersey and was employed by Motorola for 20 years. After his retirement in 1990, he and his wife moved closer to his family in Bloomsburg, where he then resided for 30 years.
Albert was a lifetime member of the American Legion #273, Bloomsburg and the VFW #804, Bloomsburg. He was a HAM radio operator, call sign N3KLL, which was his favorite pastime.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Margot E. Veth, Danville; 4 grandchildren: Fredrick E. Veth and wife Karen; Michele L. Rough and husband Brian; Cindy Casey and husband Lester; Theresa Veth and companion Shawn Rinehardt; 8 great grandchildren: Alexia and husband Devin, Alexandria and husband Zack, Ryan, Mason, Zane, Ivy, Ziggy, and Sadie; and a great-great grandchildren, Addien and Emily.
A private graveside service will be held on October 22, 2021, in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick with full military honors.
