Linda L. Elmes, age 76, of Nescopeck passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at her home.
Born in Berwick on December 24, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Jack L. and Florine G. (Kershner) Eveland. She was a graduate of Berwick High School, class of 1965. In her younger years, she worked at several local sewing factories. After marriage and the birth of her children, Linda became a homemaker who worked hard to care for her family.
Linda enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, and crocheting, and entered many of her items at the fair. She liked bird watching and reading. She loved playing board games and card games with her grandchildren and family. Her favorite pass time was genealogy. She spent many hours tracing generations of family members throughout the area.
Linda was the wife of James David Elmes who passed away in December of 2018, they were married for 51 years prior to his death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded by her son James “JJ” Elmes in 2022; and brothers, Stanley, Robert and David.
She will be greatly missed by her children: David Elmes and wife Patrice, Shelton, WA; Scott Elmes and wife Tammy, Zenith; Susan Smith and husband Jeff, Berwick; Diane Wyda and husband Mike, Dorrance; Sarah Zehner and husband Steven, Nescopeck Twp; Jason Elmes and wife Julie, Orangeville; grandchildren, Brittany, Jenna, Kara, Olivia, Lillian, Maria, Jessica, Dylan, Matthew, Michael, Bryce, Emily, Sadie, Hanna, and Sage; and 6 great grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of a seventh. She also leaves behind sisters, Joyce Laubaugh and husband David; Jean Jarrard; sister-in-law, Jane Elmes-Crahall and husband Brinley; brother-in-law, William “Bill” Elmes and wife Elaine; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, Nescopeck with Reverend Oliver Brown officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Zenith. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
