Margaret A. Serafin

Margaret A. Serafin, age 87, of Nescopeck passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Born in Philadelphia on June 14, 1937, she was the last living of 4 children born to the late Lawrence and Helen (Patterson) Powers. She was a graduate of Mastbaum Jules ATVS, class of 1955. For many years, Margaret was employed as a bank clerk in Philadelphia. After moving to the area, she enjoyed being a crossing guard for Nescopeck Elementary School. She worked at Weis Food Market and Eckert Drug Store which later became Rite Aid.

Margaret was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Berwick. In her younger years, she enjoyed working on many types of arts and crafts. More recently, she spent her time working on word puzzles and crosswords. She loved to travel, especially to Tennessee, and she was an avid Philadelphia Eagles Fan. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and “grand pups”.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 69 years, Joseph Serafin; children: Theresa M. Thomas and partner Mark Style, Collegeville, PA; Reverend Joseph “Jay” Serafin, and wife Jamie, Williamsburg, VA; Jacqueline M. Galutia and husband Hondo, Berwick; Timothy J. Serafin and wife Carol, Lexington Park, MD; Michael S. Serafin and companion Pilar Mongion, Berwick; grandchildren, Anthony Ferraro, Nicole Sklaroff; Hondo Galutia; Kimberly Labe; Shayne Serafin; and Paxton Venditti; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence Powers and Bernard Powers; sister, Elizabeth Litostansky; and son-in-law, Joseph Thomas.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00am on Saturday January 25, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Berwick. Immediately followed by a celebration of life.
