Mary Ann Schalles, age 89, of Danville, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Emmanuel Center, Danville.
Born in Nescopeck on March 19, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Doretta (Kishbaugh) Schalles. She was a graduate of Nescopeck High School, class of 1953 and continued her education at Bloomsburg State Teachers College where, in 1962, she earned her Bachelor of Education Degree. For 32 years, Mary Ann was an elementary teacher at Scotch Plains, NJ, retiring in 1994. After retirement she moved back to the area and became a naturalist at the Monroe County Environmental Education Center.
Mary Ann was a member Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg. She was actively involved in the NJEA, NEA and PEO International, where she was a past president of Chapter CI and currently the historian. In her younger years, she enjoyed travelling. She also enjoyed taking care of her beloved pets, which she had throughout the years.
She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Madelyn Williams and Ethel Balliet; brothers, Robert Schalles and wife Concetta; and Craig Schalles; sister-in-law, Vera Jane Schalles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Schalles and wife Mary; Rodney Schalles; sisters, Joyce Trenholm; Clara Mae Hunter and husband Ralph; and brothers-in-law, Rice Williams, and Wayne Balliet.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday February 17, 2025, in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick with her pastor, Reverend Mark Reisinger officiating.
