Carol A. (Fink) Smetana, age 87, of Pond Hill passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Mountain Top Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Born at home in Nuangola on December 29, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lenore (Bigger) Smetana. Carol graduated from Newport Township High School in 1955 and continued her education at Wilkes-Barre Business School. Early in her career, she worked for several years as a secretary for the U. S. Air Force at the Pentagon. She then was a secretary at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, and Tachikawa Air Base, Japan. She moved back to the US and again worked at the Pentagon and finished her career at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines.
She was a member of St Marks’s Lutheran Church, Pond Hill. Carol was an avid reader and enjoyed watching figure skating. She loved flowers and belonged to several area garden clubs. She was always listening to Elvis, Willie and Toby, and got to meet WillIe in person multiple times. She always kept up to date on the current events in the world.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael A. Smetana in 1991; brother, Lloyd Fink; sister-in-law, Margie Fink; and brothers-in-law, Ron Romblad and Len Roseman.
She will be greatly missed by her loving daughters, Suzanne Paul Carman and husband Brian Carman; Roxanne Pretty and husband Gary, Sweet Valley; Cheryl Eybs and husband Ed, Doylestown; cherished grandchildren, Valerie, Desiree, Michael, Vanessa, Emily, and Alexa. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great grandchild in September. She also leaves behind brother, Chris Fink; sisters, Alice Canham and husband Dave; Miriam Romblad; Jane Roseman; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 25, 2025, in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Pond Hill. Interment will follow in Pond Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third St, Nescopeck.
Family will provide flowers for the service. In lieu of sending flowers, please plant one in her memory.
