Jay L. Zimmerman, 73, of Brookside Village, North Center Township passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Born in Bloomsburg on July 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Isaac and Dorothy M. (Raup) Zimmerman. He was educated in Catawissa Schools and worked at Milco Industries, Bloomsburg for 40 years.
Jay liked hunting and being outdoors. He was an avid NASCAR fan, always rooting for Dale Earnhardt Sr., and most recently, Dale Jr. He always kept busy assisting others with home projects, or helping on his cousin’s or friend’s farm. He greatly enjoyed working on his red Chevy truck, and taking it for rides.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Linda L. (Smith) Zimmerman; daughters, Tammy Long and husband Michael, Bloomsburg; Angela Azad, Berwick; grandchildren, Tomoshee Azad, Samyul Azad, Shelby Long, Emily Long; sister-in-law, Caroline “Butch” Zimmerman of Stillwater; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Jay’s brother Calvin passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rona Ann Zimmerman in infancy; son-in-law, Jamil Azad; and brothers, Carlton Zimmerman and Robert Zimmerman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with Pastor Michael Woolcock officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until the service begins.
