Bob Sommers

Bob Sommers, 72, Bloomsburg, went to sleep in Christ (John 11:11-27) on Sept.6 2016, at Geisinger Medical Center, where he was a patient for 9 days. He had been in failing health for the last 18 months

He was born on Feb.13th 1944, and was the son of the late Nyle and Garnet (Laubach)Sommers. He grew up on a farm between White Hall and Exchange, and was a 1962 graduate of Warrior Run High School.

He retired from Bell Telephone in 2000 after 34 years as a lineman and service technician, working mostly in the Millville, Washingtonville, and Bloomsburg areas. He was a union representative for the C.W.A. for 10 years. He was the owner/operator of a food stand at the Bloomsburg Fair for 9 years and won many awards for quality and excellence.

He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for 6 years in the 104th 1st Armor Division on the Patton M48-A3 tank, attaining the rank of Specialist E6.

Bob is survived by his wife, Pamela Roth Sommers, whom he married Nov.1st, 1969, and would have celebrated their 47th anniversary; 2 sons, Scott David and Brad Edward Sommers; brother, Major USAF(ret.) James Sommers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Sommers, and a sister, Barbara Jacobs.

He was an NRA Benefactor Life Member and the NRA Whittingham Center in New Mexico, The 2nd Amendment Foundation, and the Pennsylvania Gun Owners Association.

He was a member of Bloomsburg V.F.W Post 804, Benton-Fort Ricketts V.F.W. Post 8317, Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273, and Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436.

He was an avid lifelong hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed many trips to Canada fishing with family and friends. He liked NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, and attended many races with friends. For those that knew him, you all know how much he loved his dogs!

Through his childhood he attended White Hall Baptist Church. In his adult life, he was a member of the Bloomsburg Nazarene Church. As a born again Christian, his family looks forward to seeing him again. He was a very loving and protective husband and father, and we will cherish our many fond memories with him.

In respect of his wishes, there will not be a viewing, funeral, or memorial.
