Charles F. Hess, 81, of Pond Hill passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Berwick Hospital Center.
Born on February 15, 1935, he was the son of the late Helen (Boyd) Burd and Doyle Hess. He was a graduate of Newport Township High School. Charlie worked at Country Cousins Shoe Factory in Mocanaqua until its closing, and was then employed at Wise Potato Chips until retiring.
Charlie was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran/St. Marks Reformed Church in Pond Hill where he was the custodian and grounds keeper for many years, as well a choir member. He was a very kind man who helped others with cutting grass and other maintenance chores. He was described as “a friend in need and a friend in deed”, and always gave more than he got.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Danko; and brothers, Edward, Luther, Eugene, and Richard Burd.
He will be greatly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephew and friends, who loved him and were loved by him.
viewing will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 10:00 till 12:00 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, followed by a prayer service. A memorial service will be held in St. Mark’s Church, Pond Hill at a date to be announced. Interment will take place in Pond Hill Cemetery next to his father.
