Janet M. Smith, 85, was called home on Monday, November 28, 2016 to sing with the choir of Angels.
Born in Sugarloaf on June 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Lee F. and Helen (Naugle) Schell, and a graduate of Nescopeck High School.
Janet loved her family and would often regale others with stories of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to sing, and would often sing to, and with, her family. She was a member of the Smith Quartet, which also included her husband, daughter and son.
She was a member of Faith United Lutheran Church, Nescopeck, where she was a member of the choir, and WELCA. She was a former member of Mt Zion Union Church, where along with her husband, she was a counselor for the church Luther League. They would often camp at Moyers Grove with the teenagers, and often joined them in their fun and games.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Raymond E. Smith; brothers, Drew, Mark and Derle Schell; and great grandson, Jason Shaffer.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Joan Shaffer and husband Jason; son, Carl Smith and husband Loren Artz; grandchildren, Jodie Stradnick and husband Jim; Jennifer (Shaffer) Maczuga; Eric Smith; Patrick Smith and wife Jackie; great grandchildren, Anthony, Samantha, Nathan, Matthew, Kylie, Lily, Madison, and Owen; brothers, David Schell and wife Jolinda; Ron Schell and wife Carla; Fred Schell; sister, RuthAnn Henrie and husband Marlin; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third St, Nescopeck, with Reverend Jessica Kingsborough officiating. Interment will follow in Mt Zion Cemetery, Briggsville. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
